Kite surfer rescued after becoming stranded

SAN FRANCISCO

The fire department received a report at 4:51 p.m. that there was a hang glider stuck in the water and drifting east toward Alcatraz, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

She said firefighters responded on personal watercraft and in a fireboat, and located the stranded person -- who turned out to be a kite surfer -- in the water near the St. Francis Yacht Club.

The kite surfer was pulled into the fireboat shortly after 5 p.m. and did not need medical attention, Talmadge said.
