"It's almost Christmas," San Diego resident Patricia Bradley said. "People really hope and pray for a $1,000 gift card. That would be great."
Bradley got one of the text messages. It said she won a recent contest and was getting a $1,000 gift card from Target. But she was suspicious when the text directed her to a website where she was asked to enter her email, home address, and date of birth.
"That's where so many people get their personal information compromised," Bradley said.
Turns out the message was a fraud.
Target says it only sends customers coupons to their phones, and that it isn't running a contest.
The Better Business Bureau says these text messages are being sent to people nationwide. Their best advice is if you got one, delete it.
