New Year's Day marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and the U.S. Postal Service is marking the date by releasing a new stamp.

It was unveiled at an event at the National Archives in Washington Tuesday. It features some famous words from the document.

The proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. It freed slaves in confederate states.

The new stamp is being issued as a forever stamp.
