Study: Being bilingual improves attention span

A new study suggests that people who speak two languages pay attention better than those who can only speak one. Northwestern University researchers studied 23 bilingual teenagers and 25 that spoke only English.

They found that each group could process sound the same when it was quiet, but the brains of bilingual students were significantly better at detecting sounds when background noise was added.

Scientists have long suspected this to be true, but this is the first time it's been documented.
