A new study in the Journal of Pediatrics suggests that many mothers are giving their babies solid food too soon.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a national survey of more than 1,300 mothers. 40% said they gave their baby solid food before their children were 4 months old. 9% started as early as 4 weeks.

Doctors recommend waiting until a baby is at least 6 months old, once they've developed the proper gut bacteria to digest solid food.
