The Oakland Ballet is celebrating nearly 50 years this year and is kicking off the spring season Friday night, with new ballets, inspired by classic works.

The dancers are rehearsing performances from the legendary Russian ballets of philanthropist Serge Diaghilev.

The show is called "Diaghilev Imagery," with choreography by artistic director Graham Lustig and two guest choreographers from the Bay Area.

Friday and Saturday performances are at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts in Oakland.
