BART temporarily reopens Transbay Tube, will resume single tracking at 11:30 a.m.

Two maintenance vehicles crashed inside the tube overnight. There are no reports of any injuries. Delays of more than an hour have been reported on all lines as service is being single-tracked in the tube.

Crews are working to repair about 380 feet of track and are hoping to finish the work by by 11:30 a.m., but delays will persist. About one-third of normal service is being reported through the tube.

BART commuters are being encouraged to telecommute if possible, or take other means of transportation.

Here are a couple of transportation alternatives:

AC Transit is providing extra buses, the staging area is at 20th and Broadway in Oakland.

Ride Now is a computer and telephone-based system that allows commuters to make one-time ride matches close to their departure time.

The San Francisco Bay Ferry will take about 30 minutes to cross the Bay this morning. Two extra ferries have been added from Jack London Square.

Muni is providing extra subway train service from the Embarcadero Station to the West Portal Station.
