While many other cities put names on a plaque or wall, Alameda unveiled busts of its two officers who were killed in the line of duty.
One bust honors Deward Gresham who died in a police motorcycle accident in 1942 and the other bust honors Robert Davey who was killed 30 years ago during a drug raid.
Alameda's current police chief came up with the idea of honoring the fallen officers after the last policeman who worked with Officer Davey retired a few years ago.
The memorial was financed with private donations.
