Walnut Creek to consider stricter smoking ordinance

The Walnut Creek City Council is expected to consider stricter laws to limit secondhand smoke next week.

The move comes as the city tries to upgrade its poor rating with the American Lung Association because of its weak tobacco control.

If tougher secondhand smoking rules are enforced, smoking would no longer be allowed downtown, at public events, or city-owned parks.

Smoking would also be banned inside all multi-family resident units and on balconies, patios and near entrances.
