The non-profit group Child Care Aware of America says the cost of sending a child to daycare rose an average of three percent nationwide.
The report says daycare is now more expensive in nearly two-thirds of the country than yearly tuition and fees at a four-year public college.
Massachusetts had the highest cost for full-time infant care last year at $16,500 a year.
California ranked ninth at just over $12,000 a year.
