New York lawmakers consider banning microbeads in cosmetics

State lawmakers in New York might pass the nation's first ban on tiny, plastic beads found in many personal beauty care products.

Manufacturers add beads to many face and body scrubs to help exfoliation.

The beads become coated with toxins like PCBs and environmentalists say tens of millions of them are turning up in the great lakes, including New York's shore along Lake Erie.

The concern is that fish will eat them and they'll eventually up in the food chain.
