Veronica Partridge, a Christian blogger based out of central Oregon, has caused an online controversy after publishing a blog post about her decision to stop wearing leggings publicly after they caused men, who are not her husband, to have "lustful thoughts."
In a post from Patridge's blog earlier this month titled "Why I Chose To No Longer Wear Leggings," Partridge shared her thoughts on leggings and why she chose to no longer wear them.
"Was it possible my wearing leggings could cause a man, other than my husband, to think lustfully about my body?," Partridge asked in her blog. "I asked my husband his thoughts on the matter when he got home. I appreciated his honesty when he told me, 'yeah, when I walk into a place and there are women wearing yoga pants everywhere, it's hard to not look. I try not to, but it's not easy.'"
"I made a personal vow to myself and to my husband. I will no longer wear thin, form-fitting yoga pants or leggings in public. The only time I feel (for myself) it is acceptable to wear them, is if I am in the comfort of my own home or if I am wearing a shirt long enough to cover my rear end." Partridge concludes that she feels she is "honoring God and my husband in the way I dress."
Partridge's blog post quickly went viral, generating over 69,000 shares on Facebook. But the post incited fierce reactions in support of, and against, her decision.
"It is not vanity on her part, and it is not judgment toward anyone else. Why so much anger?" commented one reader on Partridge's blog.
"We live in a free country where religious views should have no bearing on what we can or cannot wear. Sexuality and attraction are relative to the individual which is why I have such an issue with Veronica's blog post. Not to mention her ridiculous notion that women are responsible for men's thoughts," wrote another commenter.
Partridge and her husband Dale recently appeared on Good Morning America in defense of the decision:
