WHITTIER, Calif. -- It is time to "live like a local" with Localish LA.
Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated November 1st and 2nd. It's a time to honor loved ones who are no longer with us. And we found the perfect spot to celebrate with Mexican cuisine and handcrafted Day of the Dead-inspired cocktails at Kalaveras in Whittier.
With locations throughout Southern California, we found the perfect spot to indulge, reminisce and enjoy.
"I would describe it as a high energy ambience when you walk in. You have the vibrant colors, you have the music, you have the lighting, you have people enjoying drinks, enjoying the food," said Daniel Brito, director of operations at Kalaveras in Whittier.
The modern restaurant is known for its decorative cultural artwork, such as Selena, Frida Kahlo and Cantinflas and more.
The Mexican dishes, including tacos, with a modern twist is another reason people enjoy Kalaveras.
"I had the enchilada and the food was excellent," said Lorraine Marrujo, a resident in Whittier.
"It's our first time here, but it was great," said Daniel Frederick, a resident in Whittier.
Brito says their Da de los Muertos handcrafted cocktail are a customer favorite.
"It is a celebration of the dead and it's also a celebration of the living here," said Brito.
