SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- There won't be any panning for gold during the Labor Day holiday weekend in Old Sacramento this year.
The drought has forced the Gold Rush Days tradition to be cancelled.
The streets in Sacramento's Old Town are paved with 200 tons of dirt during the event and that requires 3,000 gallons of water each day to keep the roads dampened and the dust to a minimum.
One-hundred gallons of water is usually needed at the end of the four day event to wash away all the dirt.
