Kava
Kava is a crop of the western Pacific. The roots of the plant are used to produce a drink with sedative, anesthetic, euphoriant, and entheogenic properties. Kava is consumed throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia, including Hawaii, Vanuatu, Melanesia and some parts of Micronesia. Kava is sedating and is primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity. Traditionally, it is prepared by either chewing, grinding or pounding the roots of the kava plant. Grinding is done by hand against a cone-shaped block of dead coral; the hand forms a mortar and the coral a pestle. The ground root/bark is combined with only a little water, as the fresh root releases moisture during grinding. Pounding is done in a large stone with a small log. The product is then added to cold water and consumed as quickly as possible.
Vuadomo Village
Vuadomo Village is accessible through guided day trips from the nearby Koro Sun Resort. The majority of indigenous Fijians still live in villages with a chief at the helm. They live closely connected to nature, with most villagers making their living directly from natural resources coming from the local land and ocean. Vuadomo village is a traditional village located in Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu. When visiting a Fijian village for the first time one will participate in a traditional welcoming ceremony with the village chief where a gift of kava root must be brought and presented to the chief. Vuadomo village boasts a stunning waterfall, access may only be granted through permission of the chief. The village itself is comprised of a collection of small bures with tin roofs surrounded by beautiful gardens. Chickens roam the land and children can be seen playing throughout the village. The famous Vuadomo Waterfall is a short walk from the village through an abundant stretch of jungle dotted with passion fruit vines, banana trees, wild ginger plants and more

The resort offers guests an opportunity watch the preparation stages until the delicious meal is unearthed and served for dinner that evening. Lovo dinners are accompanied with a buffet of additional offerings, and entertainment in the form of traditional Fijian dances.
Meke
Meke is a dance of the indigenous Fijian people that includes all of the community: men, women, and children.
