Driver killed in crash with unoccupied Caltrans truck in Hayward

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A driver died in Hayward after crashing into the back of an unoccupied Caltrans truck.

The crash happened at around 3:15 a.m. on southbound I-880 near Winton Avenue, where there is ongoing construction.

The CHP says the driver was speeding and suddenly veered toward the middle before crashing into the parked truck.

The impact from the collision sent debris flying, hitting and injuring two construction workers who are expected to recover.
