1 killed, 1 injured in Hayward shooting

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Police in Hayward are investigating a Thursday night shooting that left one man dead and another hospitalized.

Officers responded at 9:40 p.m. to the 400 block of West A. Street on a report of a man who had been shot and located a man lying on the ground and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A second victim, a 19-year-old Hayward man, was also located at the scene.

The second victim was suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and was listed in critical condition, though his injuries were not considered life threatening, police said.

The identity of the deceased victim has not been released.
