WILMINGTON, Del. -- A Delaware woman is petitioning K-Mart so that her mom, an employee at the retailer, can be home with their family on Thanksgiving.

Jillian Fisher has launched an online petition, asking the retailer to staff the holiday with workers who volunteer.

Her mom Donna Fisher works at the store in Wilmington.

This year, K-Mart stores will be open for 42 hours straight from 6:00 a.m. Thanksgiving Day until midnight on Black Friday.

Donna says she wasn't given a choice and that she has to work on the holiday.

"It breaks my heart, it really does to see that it is all about the money, it's not about the Thanksgiving," said Donna.

K-mart says the manager gave Donna the preferred shift on the holiday and added that customers like the holiday hours.

The petition, meantime, has garnered more than 1,300 signatures so far.
