PETALUMA, Calif. (KGO) -- A fundraising website was set up for Daniel Burdick to help him recover after his donor surgery. He will only have six weeks of medical insurance available to him and relatives say he will be unable to return to work for an unknown amount of time.

This past week, doctors at UCSF successfully carried out an unusual kidney transplant between Sabrina Timms of Petaluma and her former fiance, Burdick.

Timms and Burdick split up years ago, after having a child. But 18 months ago, Sabrina's kidneys failed and Burdick turned out to be the perfect donor match.

When Timms came out of surgery, doctors said there were early indications that the donated kidney is working properly.

Burdick is also recovering well.
