Group pays off $7,000 in layaways at Hayward Kmart

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A team of volunteers from the group Pay Away the Layaway helped out some lucky customers at the Kmart in Hayward Friday night.

The group paid a total of $7,000 at the Hayward store alone.

"My angel. Thank you! I always see it, but I never thought it would happen to me," Kmart customer Shiela Bradley said.

"I'm a single mom," said Patricia, one of the lucky Kmart customers. "It means so much to us and it's a huge relief."

Pay Away the Layaway depends on donations.
