Online Consignment Store Helps Newcomers Move In

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Many young newcomers arrive in the Bay Area with amazing educations and big dreams, but no furniture. A new company has taken notice and offers a solution to this problem.

There are racks and racks of used furniture in good condition at a San Francisco warehouse called Move Loot.

"Move Loot is the first online, curated market place for second hand goods," said Bill Bobbitt of Move Loot.

Move Loot is an online consignment store, but their target isn't just the usual consignment buyer.

"Most users think of consignment, they think of small store you go down the street. It is a lot of antiques that look great, and you buy one or two pieces. We really hope when someone comes to our store if they are moving out we can take all of it. If move in we can provide you with all the furniture, art lamps and anything you would want," said Bobbitt.

When some people arrive in San Francisco they furnish their entire apartment with Move Loot. Then when they move, they have it all taken away.

"We do something that almost no furniture retailer can provide. We do next day pick up for sellers and next day delivery for buyers," said Bobbitt.

Consigned furniture comes into the warehouse, is inspected & cleaned, tagged, photographed and then the staff puts the item online. A buyer picks out an item and the piece is taken out of the warehouse.

Move Loot delivery crews climb stairs, navigating tight hallways, and place the items where the buyer wants it.

San Francisco resident Betty Mao just had a piece delivered.

"On the website it tells you all the kinks and everything it comes with. It is pretty much what I expected it to be," said Betty Mao of San Francisco.

The cabinet cost her $30 and delivery was $50.

"It was really easy to order it online and have them deliver it here," said Mao.

"It is free over $100 for delivery and pick-ups are largely free. It is more of a case of does your inventory match our quality standard, and if it does we will be there tomorrow," said Bobbitt.

When this company started a few months back they took their furniture, their friends and parents furniture and threw it in a rental locker. Now they have expanded from San Francisco to the Peninsula and the South Bay.
