Removal of final truss of old Bay Bridge span underway

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Caltrans crews are removing the final truss on the old eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

Crews started around 6:30 a.m. and work is expected to take all day. Last month, crews worked to remove another truss.

The last of the five big steel sections will be lowered onto barges in the water and taken to the Port of Oakland to be dismantled for scrap.
