Hundreds gather to honor couple lost in Ghost Ship fire
Hundreds of people gathered to honor and remember the young couple of Alex Vega and Michela Gregory who died together in the Ghost Ship warehouse fire.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (KGO) -- Hundreds of people gathered in the rain on a residential street in San Bruno Wednesday to grieve the loss of a young couple killed in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire.

Prayers pierced the quiet of a cold and rainy night outside the home of Alex Vega in San Bruno.

The 22-year-old and his girlfriend Michela Gregory, 20, were among the 36 people killed in the Ghost Ship fire.

"I'm sure they were gonna get married," said Vega's brother Dan. "I'm sure they were going to do the whole schpeel and I couldn't wait for little baby Alexs' to run around."

Dan expressed the heartache cursing through both families. Friends of the young couple are shaken to the core. "She was an amazing friend," said Juliana Seide. "She had such a beautiful heart and soul and she cared about everyone and everyone adored her. She was the most amazing person I had the pleasure to know."

As the crowd here grew, people spilled onto a small San Bruno street and at some point they actually parked cars at either end of the house to block the street.

Those who knew Vega and Gregory were not surprised about the turnout. "He was the type of guy who would brighten your day even if he was feeling bad," said Rameez Iqbal, a friend. "He'd crack the funniest jokes."

"Her memory is going to live on forever," said another friend Amber Abugharbieh. "She was such an old soul and touched so many people's lives, just with a smile. She would never stop smiling."
