SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The family of homicide victim Kate Steinle has just filed a lawsuit saying many missteps led to her death.
Steinle was walking down Pier 14 in San Francisco when she was shot last July. Today's filing holds the Bureau of Land Management, immigration, custom officials and former San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi responsible.
The family says they all provided the "means and opportunity" for a repeat drug felon to kill Steinle. The man accused of killing Steinle was an undocumented immigrant who had been deported five times. The gun used was stolen from a Bureau of Land Management agent.
