PITTSBURG, Calif. (KGO) -- A Vallejo family suffered a heartbreaking loss Wednesday after a pregnant mother of four was shot and killed.
Shanique Marie, 25, was in a car with a man when someone in another car shot at them Wednesday morning on Highway 4 in Pittsburg.
Patricia Johnson is Shanique Marie's mother and she and other family members were full of raw emotion Wednesday night after dealing with the loss of their daughter, sister and mother.
"She loved her kids. She loved her kids. She was always smiling. She was always laughing. She kept our family together. She kept us together," Patricia Johnson said.
Marie was shot and killed on Highway 4 near Railroad Avenue just before 11 a.m. She was pregnant with her fifth child. Her other four children under the age of six.
"Whatever happened on that highway, I pray that God sorts it out, cause it's crazy," said the victim's uncle Patrick Johnson.
There was a man in the car with Marie. Witnesses say the victims were having some kind of problem with people inside another car, a white Mercedes, and that the people in the Mercedes opened fire.
Marie was killed. The man injured.
"That vehicle was definitely the target of this shooting the circumstance that lead up the shooting is still under investigation," said Pittsburg police Capt. Ron Raman.
This is the second fatal shooting on the same stretch of highway in three weeks, but Pittsburg police do not think the killings are related.
Marie's family wants answers.
"My baby was 25-years-old. My baby deserves, and her kids deserve, to know whoever done this," Patricia Johnson said.
The people in the Mercedes got away. Police have not identified any suspects.
