Two residents and a dog displaced by San Jose house fire

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Crews faced several challenges while battling a house fire on Foxworthy Avenue in San Jose Wednesday evening.

Video from a viewer showed the flames shooting out the back of the home.

The two owners were home when the fire started around 9:30 p.m. They say they smelled smoke, looked around and didn't see anything, then went to the back of the home. That's when they saw the flames.

One of the homeowners suffered minor burns. That person was treated at the scene and then released.

Crews had a difficult time fighting the fire. That's because looks like a small home from the front, but it's actually about 3,000 square feet. And there are different add-ons to the home. So firefighters had some challenges getting around and getting access to the places they needed to go.

Just that one injury was reported. All the firefighters are fine.

Though the fire is nearly fully contained, crews will remain on scene to check for hotspots.

Officials say the hot weather did not hamper their efforts to put out the fire. But they did make sure that crews were rotated and hydrated so they wouldn't suffer from heat exhaustion.
