If the weather cooperates, the Bay Area should get a good view of a partial solar eclipse today. It will begin just before 2 p.m. We should see nearly half of the sun covered by the moon at the eclipse's' peak about 3:15 p.m. It will end at 4:30.

Watch the partial solar eclipse streamed from the Griffith Observatory.

A warning if you want to watch the eclipse do not look directly at the sun -- that will cause permanent damage to your eyes. And sunglasses won't protest your eyes either. Instead, you can go to a view party.

Here is a list of observatories holding viewing parties:

-- The Chabot Space and Science Center, 10000 Skyline Blvd., Oakland

-- The Foothill College Observatory, next to building 4, Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills

-- Sonoma State University Observatory, inside Seawolf Stadium, southeast corner of the campus, Sonoma State University, 1801 E. Cotati Ave., Rohnert Park.
