People brave heat at Alameda County Fair
Although the temperatures reached 108 in the East Bay, some people braved the heat to participate in normal summer activities.

PLEASANTON, Calif. (KGO) -- Despite the boiling hot temperatures, people were braving the heat and in some cases paying for it.

It was 108 degrees when a team of 9-year-old Little League All-Stars hit the diamond in Livermore. Early practices were canceled, but the games went on.

"We're just keeping a really close eye on [the kids]. We have ice in a bucket with towels, we keep them hydrated, we keep them in the shade as much as we can between innings," Danville Little League coach Tim Seiler said.

At the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, the first aid station saw a steady stream of people showing signs of heat exhaustion. An elderly woman was rushed in on a wheelchair and a fair worker sat under the misters feeling disoriented and nauseous.

FFA and 4-H members tried to keep their livestock cool, but the heat was too much, especially for the swine because pigs don't have sweat glands.

Hanna Finster's hog named "Chuck" was so lethargic he wouldn't even get up to take his cold bath and Tuesday was show day.

Finster from Valley Vista 4-H, said, "It was really hot, so it was bad. They just don't want to do anything."

Although the heat was over 100 degrees on June 30, 2015, people braved it to participate in normal summer activities, such as going to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif.

"They've got to walk around ring, and after so many times around the ring, you're not going to want to walk around the heat as well," Danielle Jess from Livermore Future Farmers of America said.

It was so hot about the only thing selling at concession stands was water.
