North Bay prepares for Thursday's storm, king tides

MILL VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- There are many trouble spots in the North Bay that are prone to flooding and people are preparing for problems due to the king tides that are supposed to show up later this week.

Sandbag stations are ready to go because Thursday they'll come in handy, especially in low lying areas like Mill Valley's Sycamore Triangle.

Roads may get flooded too. In fact, residents know how bad it can be when heavy rain combines with king tides.

The Shoreline Highway was flooded two years ago, and now the concern is that it'll be the same situation later this week. "That will probably be closed and then the traffic will probably be really difficult. It will be very tough to get in and out of Mill Valley," said ...

Marin County's officer of emergency services has already sent out alerts. Residents who haven't signed up for updates are urged to text their zip code to 888777.

"The other concern is winds, strong winds, particularly on Thursday," said Chris Reilly, Marin County Emergency Services Manager. "And with winds sometimes comes trees down into power lines so there are some safety hazards involved there."

Not to mention the inconvenience of power outages. Marin County residents have gone without power for days, sometimes a full week following a storm.

"That's the problem around here," said Mill Valley Resident Hal Jennings. "All the trees, the oaks are dying so that's probably the main thing for me is the pain of not having power."
