Downtown SJ light rails closed for construction

SAN JOSE, CA

The Valley Transportation Authority announced that the light rail station at Second and Devine Streets will close beginning at 10 p.m. today for the demolition of an existing rail and concrete and installation of a new rail and concrete. The station is scheduled to reopen at 4 a.m. Monday.

Work being done will require street closures and the full shutdown of the VTA light rail between the Convention Center and the Japantown/Ayer stations. Substitute bus service will be provided between the affected stations and will stop at each of the closed light rail stations, including the San Antonio, Santa Clara, St. James and Japantown/Ayer stations.

Traffic on southbound Second Street will be rerouted west on Julian Street, south on Market Street and east on St. James Street, then returning to Second Street.

Northbound traffic on Second Street and traffic on First Street will not be affected by the construction.

Devine Street between First and Second Streets will be closed.
