Trees trump solar panels in new law

The governor signed a bill that resulted from a dispute last year in Sunnyvale. A homeowner was ordered to cut down two redwood trees in his yard becasue they cast shadows onto his neighbor's roof-mounted solar panels.

Under the new law, a tree that casts a shadow onto a neighbor's solar panel will no longer have to be cut down, as long as the trees were planted before the panels were installed.
