The study found that on average, homeowners who used an agent received $5,000 less than the original asking price for their home, but almost everybody who sold a home themselves received all of the original asking price.

However, realtor Alva Falla of Frank Howard Allen Agency in Marin County, begs to differ.

"Oh that is wrong. That is so wrong because exposure is the key and they don't have the exposures that us as agents have -- our networking, our groups," says Falla.
