Hayward police are asking for help in locating the driver of a dark-colored, two-door Cadillac that may have hit and ultimately killed a person early Saturday morning before fleeing the scene.

A resident heard the collision and called police around 2:40 a.m. to Pompano Street between Sumatra Street and Folsom Avenue, police said. Police found 32-year-old Rojelio Martinez from Union City, who might have been in the street looking for a dog that ran out of the house, was taken to Eden Trauma Center with major internal head injuries and later died.

The vehicle was described as a late 70s-model, Cadillac that might have front-end damage such as missing a grille, broken marker lights or a damaged windshield.

Any witnesses or people with information are asked to call Officer Eric Mulhern with Police Department Traffic Division at (510) 293-7099.

Crime Stoppers of Southern Alameda County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Callers can remain anonymous and call (510) 293-7197.
