Jason Prejean was arrested after the incident, which began at about 8 p.m. when officers responded to the area of Colgan Avenue, where witnesses reported an armed subject in the parking lot of the La Esplanada Apartments, according to Santa Rosa police.

Before officers arrived, a gunshot was reported, according to police, who contacted a family member who said Prejean was troubled about a recent relationship and was in possession of a loaded handgun inside an apartment.

The apartment complex was evacuated and officers were able to make contact with Prejean, who left the apartment without incident after about 20 minutes, police said.

No shooting victims were found in the area, according to police.

Prejean was booked into Sonoma County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
