Earlier this month, UC regents agreed to pay UC San Francisco's new chancellor $450,000 per year. The new chancellor at UC Davis is getting $400,000 annually.

The San Francisco Democrat wants to strip the UC system of its autonomy- and allow the legislature to set UC policy.

UC Regent Richard Blum says the university is better run today than at any time in the past.

If Lee's proposed constitutional amendment passes, it would be put before the voters for approval.
