The Rockettes prepare to kick it in the Bay Area

OAKLAND, CA

The Radio City Rockettes have been an American institution for 78 years. The Christmas Spectacular is the only scheduled show they do now in New York.

About 2 million people saw it last year, and now they are taking it on the road to let more people experience it. Four Rockettes were in Oakland on Monday showing is those high kicking steps of theirs.

It is a big production with 175 cast and crew members -- 22 trucks transport the stage, sets and costumes.

If there is a dancer in your family who wants to be a rockette someday, Emily Blanchard said to keep taking lessons in tap, jazz, ballet.

You have to be 18 years old and 5'6 to 5'10 to audition and it's very grueling and competitive.

And they forced me to join them to try a few quick kicks. I'll keep the day job.
