A man jumped to his death during a concert at Saratoga's Mountain Winery Thursday night in what appears to be a suicide, a Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman said.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. during a performance by The Swell Season, a European folk rock duo, sheriff's Sgt. Rick Sung said.

A packed venue of concertgoers, including the man's friend, watched as he jumped off a rooftop and onto the stage below.

Deputies responded to the venue on a report of a person attempting to jump off a rooftop, Sung said. A concertgoer who happened to be a doctor and other medical personnel had attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead on the stage.

The friend told authorities the two of them had attended the concert together and that prior to the man's jump, they were talking in their seats. He said the man then left his seat and moments later he saw him on the rooftop.
