Car crashes into Concord home for 'unknown reason'

CONCORD, Calif.

At 10:30 a.m., a Subaru Outback, a small SUV-type wagon, with three occupants was stopped at a four-way stop sign on Ellis Street at Toyon Drive when it crossed the intersection and plowed completely through the front of a single-family home on the opposite side of Ellis Street, Sgt. Russ Norris said.

"For some unknown reason, the car accelerated," Norris said.

Even the driver couldn't offer any explanation, Norris said. Though one person was inside the home at the time, no injuries were reported.

On its way in, the Outback sheared off a gas line, Norris said.

Fire and PG&E crews worked together to ensure safe conditions were restored before the Outback was removed from the home at about 11:45 a.m.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the crash, Norris said.
