Two arrested, one sought after home burglary

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.

Around noon on Tuesday, a neighbor called police to report three suspicious people in front of her neighbor's house in the first block of Fulton Street.

The neighbor said two of the people had gone into her neighbor's backyard while the third waited in front of the house on a bicycle, according to police.

When officers arrived, they detained 20-year-old Melvin Argueta, the suspect on the bicycle, police said.

The second suspect, a 16-year-old boy, and the third, described only as a Hispanic male with black hair and wearing a white shirt, ran out the back of the house and began jumping fences as they fled, police said.

Officers established a perimeter and spotted the 16-year-old less than a quarter-mile away in the first block of Birch Street, where he was taken into custody.

Police searched the neighborhood for the third suspect but didn't find him.

The two suspects who entered the home had apparently used a rock to smash a rear window, police said.

Argueta was booked into San Mateo County Jail on residential burglary and conspiracy charges, and the 16-year-old boy was booked into the San Mateo County Juvenile Detention Center on the same charges.
