Egg-buying turns into a million bucks for SJ woman

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The prizewinner, Pamela K., bought the ticket after a last-minute trip to her local 7-Eleven to pick up some eggs for her popover dinner recipe.

Despite her husband's insistence to forgo the eggs, she headed to the store, where she saw only one $10 Scratchers ticket left in the bin. "The first thought that came into my head was 'that must be the lucky one,'" she told lottery officials.

The lucky woman with her million-dollar intuition plans to use the winnings to pay off her house and possibly buy a new car. With the sudden influx of cash, she is also considering retiring from her sales representative job of 23 years at an eyeglasses company.

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven store at 1595 Branham Lane. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the ticket, officials said.

As for those popovers, the winner's husband made a sandwich because his wife was too distracted to continue with her original dinner plans.

After realizing her big win, the woman's husband said, "I'm a millionaire, and I am eating ham and cheese sandwiches."
