Three Peninsula cities considering plastic bag laws

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.

Redwood City councilmembers will vote on whether to ban plastic bags in retail stores. If approved, the plan would take effect next month.

Meanwhile, San Carlos is set to formally adopt an ordinance Monday night that requires the use of reusable bags throughout the city.

Finally, Palo Alto could expand its existing bag ban Monday night to include restaurants and require a charge for paper bags.

Both the San Carlos and Palo Alto measures would take effect in July.
