Dramatic rise in number of children diagnosed with ADHD

Nearly 20 percent of high school age boys and 11 percent of children overall have received a medical diagnosis of ADHD, according to new data from the centers for disease control and prevention.

An estimated 6.4 million children ages 4-17 have received an ADHD diagnosis at some point in their lives, a jump of 53 percent in the past 10 years.

Some critics say the rise could be a sign that the ADHD diagnosis and the medication used to treat it are being overused.
