Police say the teen was gunned down a little after noon Tuesday outside the campus of the Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School and Leadership High School.
A police investigator says the boy was shot as he ran down a street trying to get away.
The San Francisco medical examiner's office has identified him as Trayon Dixson of Antioch. He was not a student at either school.
Police say Dixson had recently moved to San Francisco with his family.
Investigators say they have only vague description of a suspect.
