California is in the midst of an epic drought and on Wednesday the mayors of the Bay Area's two largest cities kicked off a campaign that urges residents to cut their water usage.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed are hoping the "Water Saving Hero" campaign will help convince all Bay Area residents to cut water use by at least 10 percent.

The entire state is facing the dryest spring since records began being kept 159 years ago.

"People will argue that we need more dams, we need more this, we need more that - that's all in the future," Mayor Reed said. "Today we need conservation."
