The fire broke out in a three-story building in the 1200 block of Union Street shortly before noon, said San Francisco fire Lt. Ken Smith.
The fire was burning on two stories of the building and had possibly damaged a neighboring structure, according to Smith.
The dispatcher said around 12:35 p.m. that the fire had been contained but had not yet been controlled.
