Budget cuts will impact local groups

California's budget cuts are going to have a severe impact on a number of local organizations.

One that will be affected is Lao Family Community Development, a group that works with immigrant families in Oakland and San Pablo.

In an average year the center helps about 130 people learn English and look for jobs.

This year it has been swamped with requests for help.

Because of state budget cuts, the group's director says he will have to shut down some of the programs altogether while others will be scaled back sharply.
