Hayward schools won't yet cut electives

Hayward's school board voted to increase class sizes for elementary school students on Wednesday night, but it delayed any action on cutting electives like music programs.

An overflow crowd of at least 150 people packed the night's school board meeting.

The district faces a $12 million budget gap.

The vote increased class sizes in kindergarten through third grade from 20 to 34 students.

That move will save the district over $2.5 million.
