Ma to introduce bill to keep JROTC in schools

SAN FRANCISCO

Right now the program is scheduled to end in June. But the legislation by Fiona Ma would require San Francisco's high schools to keep it in place.

The School Board voted to cut JROTC in 2006, on the grounds that it's run by the U.S. Military, which is seeking new recruits, but bans gays and lesbians from openly serving.

Ma says the course is beneficial to students, and teaches leadership training and team work.
