Workers are busy installing sheetrock today, and Graham said he is working with fire inspectors and electricians to ready the club for a Valentine's Day performance by rockers Honeydust.

"We're trying for the end of the week. We're busy as bees," he said.

The 10 p.m. fire caused $400,000 in damage to the structure and $200,000 in damage to its contents, according to the Ross Valley Fire Department. About 20 percent of the club was destroyed in the blaze, Graham said.

The fire started in a wall behind a gas fireplace in the club's Tiki Lounge. Graham said that part of the club will remain closed but will be renovated. A room above the Tiki Lounge was also damaged in the fire.

There are three entrances and exits at the club and its patrons escaped the fire safely, Graham said. The sprinkler system worked.

"No one was ever in any danger," he said.

Firefighters controlled the fire shortly after 11 p.m. "There's no doubt about it, the firefighters saved the music at 19 Broadway," Graham said.

The club is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It has presented music 365 days a year with more than 50,000 musicians passing through the venue, Graham said.
