BART extension into SJ may be delayed

A proposed extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system into San Jose may get delayed.

The Valley Transportation Authority now recommends the line be extended just to Berryessa at First Street, but not into downtown.

Voters passed a one-eighth cent sales tax hike for the project back in November.

VTA is projecting a $79 million deficit over the next two years. It warns that rate hikes, service cuts and layoffs could also be on the way.
